I thought some of you may be interested in this, so I thought I would share my latest project I have been working on. This is all C&P from another board, so if something doesn't make sense, feel free to ask.
I am building an aluminum case for a car audio amplifier. Before anyone starts in on me, I am not the guy who goes booming down your street at 3am. I am way to old for that crap.
I collect Phoenix Gold amplifiers in various states of disrepair and restore them as a hobby. I have somewhere close to 30 of their amps, and most are safely tucked away under lock and key.
Phoenix Gold used to be the Mobile Audio branch of Carver electronics. Recently, Rodin Audio bought the company, and it is no longer the manufacturer it used to be. All of my amps pre-date the Rodin buy out, and are considered to be some of the highest end amplifiers ever built for mobile use.
This project started because I bought 3 800Wrms mono block amplifiers for a great price, but they were lacking their case. I decided to build a pair of cases to house two of the mono blocks in each case. I based the case design on an older (late 90’s) amplifier design by Phoenix Gold. Bellow is a picture of the amp this project is based on, it is known as the Zero Point Amplifier, model ZPA 0.5. This amp is also a dual mono amp, all on one board, putting out 500x2 Wrms.
I do not currently own either of the original ZPA amplifiers. I decided to start working on modeling the new case in Sketchup with nothing more than the over all dimensions of the factory amps and a handful of pictures. Bellow are the Sketchup models:
