This is my first post on these boards but now that theres a home for other Bronco Freaks I am going to stick around.. I have a 94 Ford Bronco XLT 4x4

So the guys at Best Buy installed my Sirius Satellite Antenna on the back of my Bronco, ( said it wouldnt stick to the top ). So I trusted the kid drove home everything was fine. Went to work and nothing... Anytime I head East Bound I get no reception. I am guessing this is due to the satelites placement etc.. So what can I do? Is there adhesive that can stick the antenna to the soft top? Not sure why he couldnt mount to the fiber glass either..

I was thinking I could mount it on the hood next to the window?

My brother (good to have a mechanical engineer in the family) drilled a hole in the regular antenna mount, mounted the sirius antenna right in front of the antenna and then ra the wire through the firewall. I get good reception (only goes out when I go through tunnels). I will snap some photos.

this method is best. i keep my antenna right in the center of the roof, right on the seam where the hard top and roof meet. no visible wire that way. i too used a dremel (you could use a small file) to notch a SMALL seperation fot the wire. i never have lost signal. on feactory installed satelite raideos, its mounted in the same place, or just above the windshield...i asume because its the best place for it. just my two cents. takes about 10 minutes to route BTW. very easy.

a pillar is the post that runs from your dash to the roof next to the windshied. the b-pillar the the one the runs from the floor to the roof just past youre door.

Just want to say thanks for everyones help and ideas. Glad to find a place with great Bronco resources! If anyone has a diagram or something I could show the guys at Best Buy tommorow that would be very helpfull!

Is there a way to get the antenna wire to the top of the Bronco without removing the top? I have never taken it off and would rather not.

Saw these photos:

And was wondering if I could run the wire along the top of the windshield?

On the back but not on the fiberglass? So like on the tailgate? I'm a little confused on where it really is.
Just sand a small flat spot on the fiberglass it will stick.

The antenna uses the steel it's magnatized / taped to as a dish like receiver to help the signal. It actually boost the signal when it has around 6" of steel all the way around it. If you read the instruction, It points out that it should be somewhat isolated from any other obstructions. I take mine from vehicle to vehicle so I just run through the passenger door up to the roof. The passenger side door is hardly used and I route it out of the way so It's almost un-noticeable.

Sirius ant. hook up

All you need todo is pop the back shell off and stick the magnet on the metal roof, run the antena wire parrell with the shell seal down through the side panel...this is how I did it....shell does not leak this way..and you get good reception.......let me know if it works

That is what I did as well. Then I ran underneath the liner above the passneger side door, down the A-pillar, underneath the dash and behind the glove box, then down the passenger side of the climate controls and out to my receiver that is mounted on the center floorboard almost right underneath the ash tray coin collector.

What worked for me when I had Sirius was: I put the antenna in the middle of my dash board touching the front window( in between the defrosters) and used velcro to hold it in place, and ran the wire along the dash(towards the front window) where no one could see it.This setup worked great while I had satelite radio_One less thing out in the open for people to steal .

if you're relying on the fm transmitter to transmit your signal to the radio, dont, sirius already admitted to me that they're not worth a damn. you either need to use an auxiliary input on your radio or get the fm antenna extender that plugs into the antenna port on the car stereo. the first being the better option. as far as where it is on the roof, it shouldnt matter, anywhere on the metal part should be fine.

Anyone try UNDER the top but above the headliner (for those of us lucky enough to have a headliner in the back)?

That was my thought - just haven't gotten to it yet. I get reception when just holding the antenna in my hand there, so the fiberglass does not block the signal, there are no holes or notches, and it is completely hidden from view.

bros, its not that hard. just stick it up there on the cab and hide the wire. also, run it direct into youre radio, FM modulation sucks, goes in and out if youre even remotely close to a station over powering the channel youre on.

I have had 7 vechiles in the last few years all with sirius in them. personally i think the roof mounted antenna looks retarded on any car. I placed everyone on the interior on the far corner of the passenger side dash up front close to the windshield. barely noticable in the corner and never had any issue with reception, plus it makes it so easy to snake and hide the wire.

never had a problem running and hiding the wires.

In the ranger I have it through the 3rd brake light, into the cab through the headliner and trim to the tuner.

then when when I traded out my head unit controlled tuner for the removable one with my wife. just changed where it routed...barely any wire shows

And from my own experience with trying to put the antenna inside to others...my roof mounted gets the best signal. Now on my wifes Honda Accord I have it mounted on the trunk lid. Comes into the trunk and runs along the lids edge and then into the carpets.

i have had my xm antenna in many of spots on the bronco

1st was thrown on the dash board, reception sucked in a big way unless i drove south
2nd on the rear of the cap, came out of the 3rd brake light and used 3m tape. wire got pinched or cut some months later.
3rd was up the a-pillar, under the windshield trim and mounted center windshield again got a bad wire about a year or two later.
4th time i pulled the top and stuck it on the mid of the cab roof and there it sits to date.

I purchased an X-terra that has sirius, I didnt have a clue what the box on the dash was until a buddy rode with me and asked what my fav channel was. uhh whatcha mean, soo he showed me, and gotta say I cannot live without it. BTW mine is on the passenger side dash, the only time it cuts out or doesnt work is when I go to the drive through at the bank. or in a parking garage.

So I took everyones advise and said the heck with Best Buy. Popped off the antenna from the back and mounted it about 6 inches in front of the fiberglass / Soft Top seam on the fiberglass. Routed the wire down the A pillar into the car. Used a piece of electircal tape to hold the wire on the top of the door frame. Will post some pics. Thanks everyone..

exactly how mine is done like was done in this previous pic. pain in the arse to do but looks great & functions great.

since most sirius antennaes are magnet mount and it will not stick to fiberglass either apply a small amount of silicone adhesive to it or double side sticky tape. if you use DST use a promoter on antenna and top before applying DST.:rockon

The dash may work for you, but I can guarantee you it doesn't work as well as it would mounted to the roof. There are two reasons for this. One is that when magnetically mounted to the roof you have a proper ground plane for the antenna to work with, that being the afore mentioned 6 inches of metal. The other reason is that when it is down on the dash the metal from the roof shields the antenna from signals when the satellite is oriented behind the vehicle. I'm not saying the dash doesn't work, just that you're definitely not getting the best signal possible.

my sirius antena was magnetic mount and i just ran it through the firewall and placed it inbetween the windshield wipers on the metal part between the hood and the windshield and i got good reception from that. as far as the fm modulated part goes, a direct input is allways better but if you don't have one then thats your only option mine worked fine as long as i put the antenea extender in my sirius radio reciever
