I bought my '87 bronco about a year ago and ever since ive been chasing tail light gremlins. at first i change the fuses, then bulbs, then bulb sockets. now i have replaced the brake light switch twice, rewired from the light sockets all the way up to the main harness connector and also repaired the brake light switch wires due to being crushed. everything is wired to the T, i now have perfect reverse lights, right turn signal and running lights, but NO brake lights and left turn signal. i did notice that above the brake light switch is another type of switch which i found out is a hose, is it supposed to be connected to something, mine seems to be cut? Also could i be missing anything else, i also noticed that my left turn signal indicator is not working either could that cause my left turn signal to not work?:banghead

I just resolved signal light and brake light problems on my '86. The signal light switch cost me $59 at Advance, BWD brand, and was not easy to install, as the steering column has to be dropped and the plug disassembled to get the wires fished through. The brake light problem was a wire a few inches from the bulb holder shorting to the body occasionally, and blowing the fuse. Finally got it all sorted out and got it inspected today.

I didn't look at a wiring diagram, and don't doubt that the problem may be in the switch in the column, but I'm thinking that the ground for that bulb may be behind the left rear tail light.

You know that the ground is the other half of the circuit.
Hmmm... you can test for a bad ground by using a test light and seeing if you get power to the socket when you should and using a known good ground for the other end of the test light.
