Just out of curiosity, I thought I would ask the question =)

I have seen a wide variance in MPG on our FSB's from 5-24MPG

I am currently getting 9MPG after a tuneup (Was getting 7)

What are some common things to do to improve mileage and what should the standard be?

Stock drive-train 'cept for the 35" tires (including odometer measurement) - about 8 - 9. The sixlitre upgrade bumped it up from 7.

An apprentice buddy of mine just did it to another friend's 5.0 litre Stang and we're dyin' for him to get the insurance on for the Summer so's he can assess the improvements.

This guy's got 4.11 gears, a worked AOD and an open 2 1/2" X-pipe with aftermarket headers.....we're expecting big things from it.

Sixlitre

p.s./
we skipped 13.5 and went straight to 15 degrees

Before I finished my accel ignition upgrade I was gettin about 10.25mpg and after I put my new accel 4000 superstock wires, race coil, autolite double platnum plugs I am gettin about 11.5mpg, Im still waiting on the accel cap and rotor and need to get a new coil wire so that'll help some more.

In an 89 2wd F-150, I got around 8 mpg doing all around driving (some highway, mostly in town). That was before I got a tuneup. Now it seems to be doing better, but I haven't tried to calculate it recently. Now if I could just keep my foot off of the pedal, I don't call it Trigger for nuthin:toothless .

Best my old 351w HO ever got was 15mpg prettymuch all interstate driving. Thats with a c6 and 3.50 gears, 31" tires.

After beating for a year or so, i was getting about 7mpg....

Put on a new intake and carb, the sixlitre ignition upgrade, and some 32's and was gettin about 11-12 until i parked it.

That was on a CARBED motor too...

I'm averaging around 17mpg right now, combined ~40% city and ~60% highway driving. That ain't driving like a granny, either.

Sooooo, what are the best things to do to increase fuel mileage besides the full tuneup. I have already done all the fluids, plugs, wires, cap, rotor.

I bought a can of seafoam, waiting for the next oil change to put it in.

My next step is putting on exhaust and then doing a partial sixlitre upgrade (Just doing the ignition coil and cap and rotor)

Do da ignition upgrade while you wait for exhaust funds to gather. You could be saving the gas money towards the exhaust.

Take you an hour or two one Saturday afternoon and may change your Bronco's life !

Must be somethin' bout them 86 heads that gives us the edge mileage wise. I wish I'd bought a shortbox fleet side F-150, with the 5.0 litre in 86 ! (did they have the 5 speed manual back then ?)

It'd be like having your cake and eating it too !
