Hey guys, I'm sorry to keep asking so many questions, I keep running into little problems that I can't find answers for anywhere on the web, but yall have been a great help!

So I'm doing this zf5 swap on my 88 bronco with the 351 and aod(still need to update my Sig), and I'm about done, just need to put the tranny back in now is all, so the problem is the flywheel bolt holes don't match up, just two of them though, I can get 4 of the 6 bolts in, and its not like they just need a little wiggle, theyre off.. somehow once I got 5 bolts in, but the 6th hole was more then halfway off, I just kept spinning it.. I pulled all these parts off an 89 f250 with 351 engine.. could the cranks be different somehow? I haven't read anyone else with this problem, when I lay my flywheel on my aod starting gear, no matter how I spin it I can never get all 6 holes to line up.. was there a difference in some and I just need to look for something else?
I'll take these to AutoZone tomorrow and see if they can match me a flywheel
Oh and I have the 164 tooth flywheel, which I've read is what I'm suppose to have.. maybe I try the 157 tooth?

First off stay away from AutoZone....Advance and NAPA happen to be my favorites...

Secondly the flywheel will only go on ONE way...try spinning it and eyeballing it if all them line up

So your saying if I can get 5 of the bolts in then just bolt it up and it'll be ok? I spun it around several times, kept dropping it on my lap though and that thing is freakin heavy, at least for the angle I have to have my body to put it up, and of course I'm on my driveway which has a slight angle so I can't rest it on the crank

I just say AutoZone cuz its in walking distance from my place, I really have no prefrance for those stores, just whoever has my part on the shelf :)

^^Haha funny^^ :p I'm not giving up, here's a pic of the aod starter gear on top of my zf5 flywheel, this is the closest it comes, no matter how many times I spin it, but you can see how far off that one bolt hole is.. what I was asking is if I only use 5 bolts is that safe? Will I run into a balance issue at high rpms?

so i just talked to my friends over at oriellys, they pulled a brand new flywheel out, its the exact same as the one i have, as in the bolt holes still dont match up, we also pulled out a flywheel from a bronco with the 302 and mazda 5 speed, it looks to be the exact same as f250/351 flywheel, 164 tooth, and the bolt holes still dont match up with mine, they did match up with the f250 bolt holes.. hmm i guess if i get them torqued down tight enough i could live with 5 bolts.. makes me weary though..

It's not the right thing to do, but why not elongate the hole a little to install the last bolt, rather than leaving it out.

:twak That's bad advise. Don't drill or elongate the hole to get it to fit.

5 bolts will throw it hole thing out of ballence DONT DO IT your fly wheel may come apart or worse trash the trans:twak
:stupid Or you'll shake your engine apart.....

IT WILL FIT. You just haven't spun it to its proper location. Keep trying and quit thinking it won't. They are made this way to keep the balance right. That's why you have to find the right position to get all the holes to fit.

I think what they are trying to tell you is - keep trying.

ya i defiantly am not going to drill into my crankshaft, and thats why i was asking about 5 bolts, i was worried it would be out of balance, i used to fly model helicopters, granted those blades are spinning way faster, but the tiniest piece of tape on one blade would barely throw them out of balance and the whole thing would shake itself apart and not fly at all.. so spinning mass, no matter how small can make a big effect.. but the other guys above made it sound like they didnt get all there bolts in.. i could do 4 bolts? well im taking off work early, gonna go spin it around and see if i can get it on there.. are there any tick marks to look for? ehh, lets see what i can do, wont give up!

There is an imbalance built into the flywheel. You can see the weight welded to the backside of the flywheel. If its in the wrong spot your engine will nuke. Put a paint strip across the crank and one of the bolt holes. If it does not line up move it one hole. Keep doing so untill all six line up. If it drops you know ok i was @ three holes to the left when it fell and you can begin from that spot. They will all line up they have too there are only six posible locations. Keep trying.

i figured it out!! man thank you guys for not flaming on me, im sure some of you had your hands on your heads shaking in disapproval, how can some one like me be attempting this swap if i cant even line up 6 bolts..
what i did was line up the flex plate, see where the weight was on it, and then lined up the flywheel with the weight on the same spot and viola!

and i figured out what i was doing wrong, i gave up to soon trying to fit it on the crankshaft because it was dark and i got bit by two spiders(which looks pretty gross today lol) and i was in an awkward position trying to hold that heavy flywheel with one arm, i must have missed the wrong spot when i kept dropping it and lost track, so i gave up and tried matching it to the flex plate because i could line those up alot easier.. Well they never lined up because i had them both on there backsides!! (because the backsides protrude a little bit, so they could lie flush on each other) so they were never going to line up because i had one backwards!! Ill tell you what, it felt hopeless for a little bit, now i just feel like a moron, hopefully someone can learn from my mistake, thanks for the help and patience everyone :) i should have this done by tonight now
