Sorry fellas, we were on vacation in Carova Beach for the last few days.

What's my Bronco's story? Well, I picked it up from a longtime member here. FordFilly, was the person who constructed the foundation for it. Funny thing is it was kinda for sale going all the way back to 2013. I picked it up back in may of this year. I wasn't really looking for another Bronco. I just couldn't pass on this one. Too good of a deal on one well built Bronco. I'll get into all of that as the month goes on. Below are the for sale threads Filly posted. I posted in the original one way back in '13.

I did a day trip to pick it up.

Up early I see Dave, nice scenery.

I got it registered and I was off to make a few changes here and there.

A big reason for acquiring "Filly" was the power plant. A bored .30, ported and polished, comp cam with an edlebrock intake and carb sparked by a msd dizzy 408. It was quite a health motor and one I always wanted to do myself. Buying an entire Bronco for about what it would run me to build a motor made more sense.

Just needs a little paint here and there.

Needed to help it breath a bit better. Stock manifolds and a single exhaust out of a 2.5" pipe just wasn't enough for a 300hp motor.
Image

These should help

And to breath freely on both sides

How about a little Round Up action?

This was the first event I attended with Filly. It was a good time to test out what she had.

Can you find Filly? How about Stuarts ride?

Above you see Filly, thinbluelines '95, Salts ride and then Harry 88bronco300

Look it's Stuart

And the MEB guy's telling me I can't have a line of 12 Broncos on one trail.

Stay tuned for more pictures. I'll kinda bounce back and forth. The build/mods to wheeling.

The wheels on Filly when I purchased it were a bit modern imo.
Image

So I started looking for a good tire I could wrap around my favorite wheels. Found some, 35/1250/15 mickey claws with 80% tread but a little dry rot (stay tuned). I picked them and the wagons they were on for $600.

Mounted and wheels scuffed for paint.

I used duplicolor textured with clear coat to finish it off. Then I took the fins back down to bare metal.

From there I moved to the interior. I wanted some carpet to keep out some heat and some noise.
Image

At 6' tall I don't need the booster blocks under the seats.
Pulled the back seat and then the carpet in the rear. Still had the overlay in the rear.
Image

Image

Rollbar got cleaned and painted since it had to come out also.
Image

New carpet going in.

Image

I got a little carried away with the knife. :banghead
Image

And a little help from the pit crew on re installing the roll bar.

Found this while pulling out the roll bar.

Loaded up to go to the Round Up.

Back on the rack for some gears. Judi packaged in some 4.10's in the selling price. So I took the opportunity to learn how to install my own gears. Not to hard now that I've done it.

New gears in

The rear has an Aussie limited slip that Bill (bmc69) had lighter springs put in. After wheeling it a few times that will be coming out and a locker will be going in. A limited slip just ain't enough.

Yeah, the gears &ls were already in the 3rd member. So we just swapped out 3rd members. I was willing to give it a try. This past weekends situation sealed the deal on a locker. Those pics will be later on in the competition.

Sorry if I missed it, is that a custom bumper of one of them there store bought ones? I've never seen one with the bent hoop like that. I like the look of them just not the lack of strength of them. I feel like I can build one similar to that out of some decent tubing.

Yep, back on the lift for some more upgrades. Had a 4" Superlift that was 7 years or so old. That lift is a good lift but the ride is crap. Ditched it for a softer ride, 4" wildhorses springs front and rear with some bilsteins.

I had to cut the shocks off also.

Like I said the superlift was 7 yo so it was done. WH's has best ride for $. I like the bilsteins 5100's a lot. These worked well with the soft springs you get with Wildhorses. Had the stock valving for the Broncos (255/70). Hard part is finding the proper lengths. The shocks on in above pics have been swapped out. Details why will have to wait.

Long Arms

I wanted more travel so long arms were in order. Duf and Bloody Knuckles are done all to often. I wanted to do something a bit different. West Coast Broncos makes a set that the Moss Bros run on their baja Bronco. If the arms work for them they should work for me.

Old vs New
Image

Image

Image

Long arms need room run forward so the old drop brackets had to go yet I had to leave support for the crossmember.
Image

hacked the bottom off and left the top on for the cross member.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Because I don't weld (yet) had to send it to Cavalier Garage for install. I helped out with the install. Learned a few tricks.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Long arms are in and the 5100's were too soft and to short in the front. So I was left looking for a longer stiffer shock. After a phone call to wildhorses and speaking with Paul B (They actually provide customer service and help there unlike Broncograveyard) and then bilstein I found a shock I could use. Bilstein 5165 reservoir shocks with 340/70 valving.

So far so good with this set up. A few tweeks to come with the shocks. I'm going to get a longer shock tower for the front and run a rear shock mount like CRAZYbroncoguy has.

:wowcb: still have the antenna off the green one? How about a better pic of it?

November 21st I hit Carova Beach with a group of friends to clean it up. For the past 8 years I've attend this annual event. Now that I think about it. I don't think I've ever had the same vehicle two years in a row :doh0715:.

Hurricane Juaqin reshaped the dunes a bit.

We worked the backroads this year since the beach had been covered by Hurricane Juaqin.
Image

Everyone in attendance received a raffle ticket and one a prize.
Image

We parked away from the Jeepers, they still haven't determined what that "thing" is they have. Don't want the Broncos to catch it.

Your Bronco sure is a nice one Dave. You have reconstructed one you should be proud of.

Now to one of the cheapest yet bigger gains of a mod I've ever done.

Twin stick from Jbfab via wildhorses4x4.
I didn't get it on in time for the round up. But have tested/used it to love it.

The boot wouldn't line up with the sticks in neutral. Come to find out it's a "universal" fit boot and you might have to fill a hole to get it to line up right.

With the stick's in position it was time to test it out. Locked the front in "low" and rear in neutral and below is the result.

Thanks Rick! It just keeps getting better and better, I find little things that make a big difference on the way it performs.
Like yesterday I found the lower steering column bearing was loose, replaced it with a new metal part and wow what a difference!

Yours is one helluva nice Bronco too my friend, I am jealous of those new shocks you got!
:beer

Have any video of that? :thumbup:toothless

Looking great guys!
Unfortunately no, I was in the driver seat and it was unexpected. All of a sudden pucker factor and I'm like :shocked
