I just watched this youtube video on rooftop tents and I think one would be perfect for my Dual-Sport motorcycle hobbie as I really have ridden everything in a 100 mile radius and need to do a multi day trip where I camp to reach new territory to explore.

Anyway to mount a rooftop tent to the top of my 93 Bronc? Maybe to the hardshell? Looks maybe impossible since the tacomas in the videos are double cab pickups with totally different geometry but I figured if someone would know it would be you guys!

Could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I saw one posted up here not that long ago. Need to do some digging. Having said that, it's definitely possible.

here you go..

Front bumper motorcycle mount and a teardrop trailer, or custom build a utility trailer for bikes and gear with racks on that high enough to clear

There’s a member on here from the PNW who made himself known and posted a picture with a tent on top of his, can’t find it but thought it was in the introductions forum. Definitely did it and looked awesome

EDIT: found it. Special cage in place of the hard top

I think it's plenty strong. Just mount on the outer part where it's thicker. You could also use the drip rails for the front mount. I was considering doing that but don't want to wheel with it up there.

Agree it needs to mount in the right spots and not every tent is a good candidate, in fact most probably aren't. Many are big and heavy and I'd want a frame for support if your looking for a big family tent. The Go Fast Camper tent only weighs 137 pounds but only fits 2 people and maybe a kid or dog. It's made of extruded aluminum and composite honeycomb panels top and bottom. Super tough but light. Doesn't need a roof rack to mount on and it actually functions as a roof rack. Also not cheap but I found mine on Craigslist.

So short answer to OP is you can, but do some research on the actual RTT.

Anything is possible with the right tools and budget. The roof is just fiberglass so you could always glass in some stringers or rails to mount the platform too. Yo cold get fancy and glass some pedestals with screw bosses to top so you can screw rails or a tent frame directly too it. The topper is plenty strong and designed to hold up in a rollover so the only real strength issue is mount strength for how you attach the tent, the mid section of roof is strong just flimsy and roof tents usually have a floor.

I've installed something similar to this on my BKO with the shell off to install a roof basket. The cross beams telescope for custom install. The longer piece that rides the length of the shell also telescopes and can be cut to accommodate the short shell.

I think this may work. I would not trust the shell to support the weight, especially risk breaking the windows. This system will support 500 lbs.
