Pics of the lean and the latch/handle mechanism.

 

It's been a while, not sure if I can find the pics but I was stretching in my seat when I heard a noise and got stuck in "gansta lean" mode for a few years. It ended up hurting my back so much my wife green-lighted buying aftermarket, suspension seats. But my issue was the metal breaking on the seat frame. My shop did a little weld to try and temporarily fix it but it was never right until I got new seats.

Dang, yeah that sounds exactly like what it is. I need to take it all apart again because the damn lever now digs into my leg when i slide out. I'm hoping that's just because my foam is worn... Maybe a need a new seat frame :/. I want to keep it stock because my EB seat covers are damn near New looking.

I broke the seat on my '96 years ago. In the outside rear corner the metal on the seat frame is swiss cheesed with holes for some reason, and the seat cracked from hole to hole to hole and then separated. I took the seat apart, pop-riveted a plate in that corner, put it back together and it's held up for a lot of years. I was leery of welding it, mostly because it was winter and I didn't want to weld it in my basement, but welding is a good idea. I'd put a plate over it, and I remember that I had to drill holes to accommodate the hooks on the springs.
You can carefully open the hog rings that hold the cover together, so you shouldn't have to destroy your upholstery.

I did have a thought though. Somewhere i thought I read that both the driver and passenger seat had the same frame and rails... Wondering if I could swap with the passenger and since the seat adjustment levers are on opposite sides (and therefore the bolts that busted out of the frame) maybe it's fixed without welding even?

According to member Chris B with an 85, "I found out that the passenger and drivers seats are identical..." His only issue was
"All went well untilI was removing the passenger seat from the hardware; something was holding it up. A cable? DOH! Totally forgot that something had to tilt the seat when it was flipped forward. After removing a small screw and a snap ring, the seat came out. At this point I was a bit worried that the seats
would not be able to be swapped, but after further investigation, I was wrong. The seats are identical, and the cable is just an added item.". @ Wayback Machine
But I THINK the issue was because driver's seat didnt slide and tilt in 85.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Seat Track, Manual Bucket
Removal

1. Remove four bolts retaining front seat tracks (61704) to front floor pan (11135).

1. Lift the front seat (60012) and front seat tracks from vehicle.

1. Remove screws attaching front seat track to front seat cushion frame and spring (63100), and adjuster rod. Separate front seat cushion frame and spring from front seat tracks.

Installation

1. Follow removal procedures in reverse order.

On my '87, the front seat seat sections were identical (the backs have the armrest on opposite sides). I could reach over to the passenger seat and flip the seat back release on the passenger side, this laid the front seat nearly horizontal, much to the surprise of my passenger. On my '92 and newer, the seat controls are mirrored, so no more fun.
