Hey all I am in the process of retrofitting a 1992 5.8 and an e4od into a 78 bronco. I am not using the abs and want to keep the 9 inch. Is it possible to delete or bypass the PSOM with a 89 1356 t-case. Is there a way to fool the ecm with the old style vss. I have searched the forum and I cannot find a clear answer to this question that doesn't use these components. Any additional info would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

the PSOM converts the VSS signal to be useable. the cable driven VSS and the rear axle VSS produce different signals, ive tried. the rear axle sensor would show 120mph when doing 20. best bet would be to wire it without the speedometer or convert the instrument cluster to use it. then use a VSS relocation kit on back of the t-case. or you can use a tuner to change the EEC to use the cable VSS

I modified a 87-91 cluster to use a PSOM and Steve modified a 80-86 cluster to have one.

I think Broncos (of that body style) themselves only had e40d and 5.8 in '91 (maybe '90)

F150s however had that combo available as soon as the e40d came out

I have no problem retrofitting the dash for the PSOM. I was under the impression the vss sent signal to the rabs then to the PSOM. I do not have any of the wiring harness for the inside of the truck. I only have the motor harness and the under hood harness. I was asking to avoid spending unnecessary cash. If there is a way to work it out without the abs then I will make it happen with help from you guys. Thanks again

On F-series, the PSOM & RABS receive the ABS signal in parallel. On Broncos, the ABS sensor goes to the 4WABS module, which generates a new signal that goes out to the PSOM.

IDK the first year for E4OD in Broncos & F150s, but apparently it was AFTER the heavier trucks got it.

LIGHT TRUCK: 1989 E-250, E-350, F SUPER DUTY, F-250, F-350

ISSUE: The E4OD is a new 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission. The E4OD transmission was derived from the C-6 automatic (3-speed) transmission.

ACTION: Use the following information to familiarize yourself with the various E4OD components. This information can help you explain the operation of the transmission to the customer.

Thank you Steve83 I appreciate all of the information you have provided. I will start the wiring process in a couple of weeks. It will either work or it won't. Could you point me in the proper direction to find the correct ECM for the 89-90 truck with the t-case vss as you suggested earlier in this post as a last resort. I will continue to research this as well. Thank you for your patience again.

If you are going to use the original speedometer I don't see an issue with what you have. Find a harness from a 89-91 with the E4OD. I run a 9" in my 90 with an E4OD and a 93-95 lightning computer with out any issues.

With the customization you are doing I don't think you have to focus on a bronco harness and could look at F150-350 trucks. This would make a much larger parts pool too.
